Watercolor Exhibition 2009: Bathed in Color

About the Exhibition

　Mikiji Sobajima, born and brought up in the beautiful natural setting of the city of Seki, has his studio there, producing works depicting the forests, waterways, and other features of the landscape. The local forests and rivers are his boyhood primal landscape.
　The rich colors that capture the living scene spreading over his canvas and the serene flow of time impart peace of mind and revive memories of the past.
　This exhibition displays watercolors produced in 2002 at the Cité Internationale des Arts, artist-in-residence program in Paris. It introduces the special appeal of watercolors, in which, unlike oils, water and colors mix and spread lightly and freely over the paper.
